BRS by David L. Haberman - Rupa's Bhakti-rasamrita-sindhu

after reading Madhava´s post on the books of david l. haberman, I ordered the book
"Bhakti rasamrita sindhu- two parts in one". Anyone else to say something, please? Madhava, more experiences with that edition?

Good move or bad move (= money waste?) Yeah, i know its expensive, but....

Tarun, it is surely a good move. The western scholars may not approach the Gosvami grantha in a pious mood, but mostly, unless they have allegiance to a different philosophy like Shankara Vedanta, they endeavour to let the book speak for itself as transparently as possible.

The only other English edition, or attempted translation, of this book is seriously defective due to mistranslation of key slokas and terms. This is admitted even by Gaudiya Math scholars.

Are you saying that the translation by Swami B.H. Bon is defective? It's a word-for-word translation, much like Swami Bhaktivedanta's format for Srimad Bhagavatam, and I had heard mostly good things about it (though it only covers the first part of BRS; the full translation was never completed).

I know of no other translations, only commentaries/summary studies. If indeed there's a serious overall problem with the Swami B.H. Bon version, I'd like to know about it. Sadly, I "loaned" my copy to a fellow a couple of years ago, who proceeded to take it to India with him, and I've not seen it since.

Oh, sorry I forgot about that edition. The defective edition I was referring to is the BBT one, and the defects include serious confusion between the terms Raganuga and Ragatmika. Which is crucial.

I am not sure of specifics, but Bon Maharaja's English edition of BRS does seem to be very good. The english is beautifully lucid. Its word-for-word would certainly be an asset. A German disciple of Panditji in Radhakunda who I met was using it.

Over a decade since I've had a good read of it.
