Sanskrit e-text repository -

Jagat - Mon, 11 Feb 2002 20:03:03 +0530
Dear friends and prabhus,

For some time now, Neal Delmonico (Nitai Das) and I have been working on an ambitious project to make all Gaudiya Vaishnava Sanskrit works available in various formats on the Internet.

The site, Gaudiya Grantha Mandir has been up for a while and new texts are constantly being posted. Indeed, we have quite a number of texts backed up that need to be proofread and converted into other formats for posting.

Already available are
Srimad Bhagavatam,
Bhakti-rasamrita-sindhu,
Narada-bhakti-sutra,
Sandilya-bhakti-sutra,
Prameya-ratnävali,
Navaratna,
Brahma-samhita,
Gopala-tapani Upanishad,
a large number of stotras from Stavali (including Vraja-vilasa-stava and Vilapa-kusumanjali) and Stavamala (including Utkalika-vallari and Karpanya-panjika),
Krishna-karnamrita,
Mukunda-mala,
Uddhava-sandesa,
Hamsaduta,
Megha-duta (by Kalidas),
Amaru-sataka,
Padyavali,
Sankalpa-kalpa-druma by Jiva Goswami,
Caitanya-candramrita by Prabodhananda.
Jayadeva's Gitagovinda.

Some chapters of other books have also been posted, such as
Murari Gupta's Caitanya-charitamrita,
Kavikarnapur's Ahnika-kaumudi,
Vishwanath's Krishna-bhavanamrita.
Several chapters of the Bhagavad-gita commentaries of Sridhar, Baladeva and Vishwanath.

Finished but not posted are Jiva Goswami's six sandarabhas (all six are complete),
Radha-krishnarchana-dipika,
commentary to Brahma-samhita.
Rupa Goswami's
Ujjvala-nilamani,
Nataka-candrika,
Laghu-bhagavatamrita,
Dana-keli-kaumudi;
Raghunath's
Mukta-carita,
Visvanath's
Sankalpa-kalpa-druma;
Prabodhananda's
Radha-rasa-sudha-nidhi
Nikunja-rahasya-stava,
several chapters of Hari-bhakti-vilasa,
Dhyanachandra's Paddhati,
Baladeva's Kavya-kaustubha.
The second and third centuries of Krishna-karnamrita,
Stotra-ratna by Yamunacharya,
Bhaktivinoda's Godruma-bhajanopadesa
and Sva-niyama-dvadasakam,
Radha-premamritam.

Works that have been started and at various stages of completion include--

Bhakti-rasamrita-sesa,
Sadukti-karnamrita,
Subhashita-ratna-kosha,
Dasa-rupakam
Sringara-tilaka
Sahitya-darpana
Rasarnava-sudhakara.
Karnapur's Alankara-kaustubha
Brihad-bhagavatamrita
Vrindavana-mahimamrita
Gaura-ganoddesa-dipika
Caitanya-candrodaya
Caitanya-carita-mahakavya,
Gopala-campu,
Sadhana-dipika,
Gauranga-lila-smarana-mangala-stotra by Bhaktivinoda,
Govinda-lilamrita,
Pancatantram
Ascarya-rasa-prabandha by Prabodhananda.
Lalitamadhava
Vidagdhamadhava

...and many more.

As you can see from this list, we are not restricting ourselves exclusively to Gaudiya works, though we are giving precedence to them.

What we really need is some help! Anyone out there with a little time on his or her hands who knows how to read Sanskrit in either Bengali or Devanagari scripts and who can type in any transliteration system, or is capable of proofreading already completed texts, and would like to render a service to the Vaishnava community for all eternity, is invited to communicate with either Nitai (ndelmonico@cableone.net) or myself (janbrz@videotron.ca).

If someone wants to help managing the website by uploading finished or updated files, etc., that might also be a possibility.

Let us know how you would like to contribute. If you have any texts already completed, great! If you have a particular text you would like to do, but do not have it, we will try to arrange sending photocopies of the book in question along with any files that have already been started of that book.

Thank you! Jaya Radhe!

Jagadananda Das.

I should just like to add that so far we have been concentrating on the basic texts, but eventually we hope to include commentaries. So if anyone wants to do any of the many, many commentaries by Jiva, Vishwanath or Baladeva, please feel free to volunteer. I would especially like to see the three commentaries to Ujjvala Nilamani all available in one place.

Eventually, we hope to have a searchable CD-Rom of all these texts in one place. What a tremendous research tool that will be!

Another comment: There are other people doing Sanskrit texts, mostly this work is going on in the Puranas. All the Upanishads are available electronically and a number of Smritis. We seem to be the only ones doing Gaudiya works, but also the only ones doing kavya. Since a knowledge of kavya seems to be relevant to raganuga sadhana, I think that the inclusion of the large number of texts of Sanskrit poetic theory, subhashita collections, mahakavyas and plays will eventually be included in our project.

Dandavats and Thank You Jagadananda Dasa, Nitai Dasa, and all others involved with the Gaudiya Grantha Mandir. When I can read Sanskrit, this page/CD will be the treasure of my life.  Now the books of the Gaudiya Acaryas will be available for the whole world to read. JAYA!

I just wanted to announce to everyone that since Atul Krishnaji has started contributing his efforts to the Gaudiya Grantha Mandir, a quantum leap of improvements have been made. Have a look: Gaudiya Grantha Mandir

The main problem is still typing out the texts. The call for volunteers is still out.

So, the Grantha Mandira has a new form now. We are looking for people who can fill it with substance. If a formal geek can create a quantum leap, what could substantial people not achieve?

[-hmm-]  So, let's get serious about it. Drop a few lines into the ~ CONTACT US ~ section of the Mandira.
