Happy Birthday to our dear friend Rasaraja dasji!
A most caring and compassionate fellow, always there with a kind word and a shoulder to cry on. Nice to hang around with and someone who has a great sense of fun and humour!

FYI: Hellfest was cancelled. I heard a rumor about this earlier today but apparently some of the organizers denied it. It's now official though:
QUOTE
HELLFEST'S OFFICIAL STATEMENT
Due to circumstances beyond our control, Hellfest has been cancelled. After a full day in court in Burlington County, NJ, Hellfest was unable to meet unreasonable demands brought to Hellfest's attention by the Sovereign Bank Arena on August 16, 2005 at 6:21 PM, and to be met by August 17, 2005 at 7:00 AM. Actions were taken and Hellfest had an injunction filed by noon on August 17, 2005, but was overruled by the judge.
We send our deepest apologies out to the fans and everyone who was involved with the event and want you to be aware that legal action is being taken. For ticket refunds please contact the Sovereign Bank Arena box office.
The information I was given indicated that the organizers forgot to take care of certain details, like insurance. Quite a disappointment--and expense--for those who had already travelled across the country to play.

Rasaraj, What is this all about? (music - bands - concerts)
Madhava - Sat, 20 Aug 2005 00:46:05 +0530
JD, when Rasaraja was young
he was the lead singer (screamer
) of a punk group called 108, they did albums such as Holy Name and Songs of Separation.
Read here for more on that.
Gaurasundara - Sat, 20 Aug 2005 05:34:02 +0530
I thought Vic (Vraja Kishor) was the lead singer? Oh well, Rasaraja is cool with those guitars. ROCK ON!

You've got it flipped. Tho if you looked at the pictures, I understand how you could think that... I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that most writing and posting of pictures about the band are done by Vic himself...
QUOTE
Rob Fish - Rob is the only person besides Vic to appear on every 108 record. His characteristic screams, grunts, and grimly serious countenance became an essential part of the 108 experience.
'grimly serious'.. I like that

Thanks Madhava! Its great to see some background on Rasaraj - to think I was thinking you might be conservative!?!
but this - this is great
It is endearing Ras - (well, at least almost!
) I would love to hear what you get out of the band and how the loyal following respond and what they get out of it. Also - will you guys do a concert out here in Calif? or Missouri? or Chicago?
Madhava - Sun, 21 Aug 2005 00:03:14 +0530
These days he's a corporate punk.
That's the first gig they've done for nine years, and I'm not under the impression this was a comeback performance, or - Rasaraj? Are we ready for some manjari punk yet?
HEY
!!!! GET INTO THAT $¤#*%* KUNN-JAAAHHHHH
!!!!

Jay Radhe!
JD dada- when I was young, bands like 108 and Shelter were an entry point to a philosophy that told us that we were right in thinking that this society was empty and corrupt and that the lifestyle being promoted to us as the ideal was morally and spiritually bankrupt. This punk rock feeling and music was harnessed by the references to the lifestyle being promoted by people like Rasaraja ji and others, namely that of Bhagavat Dharma and RadhaKrsna Bhakti (albeit through Igm).
It helped solidify my basic understanding of the need for a regulated life in devotion to the Supreme Person.
JD33 - Sun, 21 Aug 2005 05:31:06 +0530
Thank you for your response ibcVisnudas - I appreciate hearing from you. btw: I grew up in Southern Calif. Madhava - it might have been a comeback performance - the concert sould out in less than 2 minutes...... so is reported. I do look forward to a retreat where we can hear 108 play!
adiyen - Sun, 21 Aug 2005 15:24:45 +0530
I am just too old to understand what 'keeping it real' means, and I had a listen to some of Rasaraja's former music and it's not my thing,
But I do wish him well on his auspicious day, especially as I think he has had quite an interesting, or perhaps even a bit stressful, past year.
Mina - Sun, 21 Aug 2005 21:23:23 +0530
Happy belated BDay, Ras. (Is that Birthday or Bhaktiday?)
We need to get the lunar calendar birthdays together for the members, so they can celebrate their actual appearance days.

Rasaraj -
I am still waiting to hear about the concert(s), etc. Kindly tell us how it all went!

Madhava - Wed, 05 Oct 2005 04:35:09 +0530
Ras, can you shed light on this?
QUOTE
I admit that the members of 108 were once deeply involved in the external social aspect of religion known as "Hare Krishna" - and today or tomorrow we may or may not be.
Perhaps someone needs to work on that section just a little bit more. It comes off as strangely apologetic, as if someone were trying to explain away something. Does the involvement in the "external social aspect of the religion" mean that the 108 people weren't really involved in the internal spiritual aspect of that religion? Why not just say that we were Hare Krishnas, and some of us aren't, but it left us all with something positive. I mean, clearly many the lyrics of the 108 reflect some of those internal, spiritual aspects of the said religion.

Radhe Radhe!
I promise that I will talk of the experience soon... I am just so over my head with other things right now... I promise!
