GD disconnect - Does it happen to anyone else?

nabadip - Mon, 30 May 2005 18:09:52 +0530
Once in a while it happens that I cannot enter the GD site (while I can enter every other site) for half hour or so. That can also occur while I am posting, connected at one moment, disconnected the next. It does not happen that often, just once in a while in a week or month. Madhavaji addressed it once and came up with the finding that some server (?) on the way may have a problem. Does or did anyone else ever experience this? For me it happens only with GD. Today is such a day that it happens now and again. Whether I should take it as a supernatural sign, smile.gif , divine intervention biggrin.gif is a different question...

This generally happens at around 9.00 GMT, is that correct? I rolled in some server upgrades the day before yesterday, apparently this hasn't still been fixed. I'll have to get to the bottom of this. I wasn't around to observe whether it got fixed, since I can't really emulate this in any way aside waiting for the time to come.

It's a weird thing. When the blackout starts, if I go to the control panel and restart Apache, it fixes the issue. However if I log in on command line and do service httpd restart, it doesn't help. A weird little gremlin. It's on my list of things to look at.

For today that was about the time it happened, yes, for perhaps 20 minutes (whether it is on and off in this time-period, I cannot say of course). But also later again once, perhaps 12.00 GMT for about five minutes.

Previously I had not understood that it was something affecting everyone. I thought it was something closer to my end.

It seems that every day between 9.15 and 9.40 GMT the system has a black-out. Just for your info smile.gif

BTW, this should now be fixed. There may be a brief (3 - 4 second) period of downtime at 2AM Eastern, but this is much better than the 15 - 20 minute period we used to have.

I got this message just now:

QUOTE
Parse error: parse error in /var/www/html/sources/classes/class_display.php on line 193

Fatal error: Cannot instantiate non-existent class: display in /var/www/html/index.php on line 208

And then the next minute everything was OK. And Nabadip's problem happened to me yesterday too, but it was alright when I clicked on a specific thread link in my cache rather than clicking for the index page which is what I normally do.

When you see parse errors, it means you hit the forums when I was in the middle of uploading a piece of code.

If you come across problems, please let us know at what time they occured (approximately), and how long they lasted.
