Jiber Svarupa & Svadharma - Srimad Kanupriya Goswami
Madanmohan das - Wed, 25 May 2005 04:11:09 +0530
This gem of a book arrived the other day, and it really is enthralling. Although I'm very much covered by ignorance, I think this book did away with a whole heap of it.
All I can do is post a snipits, and it speaks for itself.
In the heart of the Supreme Lord there is only one need or desire which is always awake; even though he is eternally united with unlimited pure devotees or nitya mukta living beings in his abode, still he is always desiring for a great union with fresh pure devotees from the material world. When the jiva attains pure devotion then he has no other desire than to be united with the Lord for the purpose of serving him..............
.........The Lord's wanting to attain the jiva in this way is an eternal desire of his and thus as soon as the jiva's desire to attain the Lord is awakened then he immediately gets him. Ordinarily, we who do not get the association of the Lord attribute it to his unattainability, but that is not the actual fact which is that we don't really want him....
You just have to read it because he (Kanupriya Goswami) explians his propositions with such perspicuity and conviction. He puts forth so much of profound substance in so pleasing and sweet a style that any one would want to be a devotee.
The book was translated by Jagat. You've maybe all read it, but it's a new discovery for me.

It was obtained from Nitai's book store which is a web site that you can access from the links here.
Jaya Gaura vanamali!
Another pertinant proposition he makes is, after citing Sri Rupa's Adau zraddhA....etc., sloka the auther says; This scriptural description of the evolution of prem is actually a description of the development of the devotee's uncompromising desire for the Lord. The beginning of wanting the Lord is faith ( zraddha) which gradually develops into prem...........tatah premA bhyudancati-that desire appears as the rising sun of prem. Just as the rising sun reveals the world around us, so the rising sun of love for Krsna reveals him.

I am very pleased to hear that you have so enjoyed this book, Madanmohanji. I myself can see nothing but the flaws in my translation and the production. Thank you very much. It's quite heartening.

The only flaws that I noticed were a few non-iritating printing errors. The contents of the book are like the clarion call to awaken one from the sloth of avidya. Though killed by Maya
maya-hata it's like a
samjivani or life restoring tonic.
utthista jagrata prapya varam nibodhata It reminds of the upanisadic dictum, awake! rouse thyself and strive to secure blessedness.
Endless thanks for it.

The only sad thing about it is that I can't just go and sit at the feet of Kanupriya Goswami and hear these discourses from him directly.
