Indian email addresses - Got any?

Mina - Fri, 10 May 2002 23:49:22 +0530
Does anyone one have email addresses for Vaishnavas in India coming in the lines of Nityananda, Advaita, Gopala Bhatta, Narottama or Raghunatha Bhatta, Gadadhara Pandit, Gauridasa Pandit or Vakresvara Pandit?

If nobody over there yet has email, perhaps we should look into getting them on the net, so that we can correspond.

I moved this over to where it belongs. I'll get back to it later.

They tried to set up an internet shop at Radhakund a while back. There's still a sign saying "Internet Email" left. I heard they even had a computer there, but couldn't get it online, because the phone lines were too weak.

Vrindavan -- there's a couple of decent internet places there, prices from Rs. 50 to 90 / hour depending on location. Shubham & Co at Bhankandi Mahadev Bazaar is pretty good, he has three computers which are linked with one 56K modem, but it usually works.

West Bengal, Navadvipa -- go to ISKCON Mayapur office with your laptop, you get to log in every other day or so. And they are pretty modern there. We got a speedy 4800 bps connection there (normal modem = 56000 bps).

Of course there must be plenty of them in Mathura, Delhi & Calcutta. With Calcutta I have no experience, but Delhi & Mathura should have decent connections. Puri -- no idea.

I guess the issue is how many of them have access to computers at all. Some work in a business with computers in office. But how many of them have computers @ home?

Indeed, "getting them on the net" may mean more than telling them "why don't you get on the net".

Yugal Kishor Das (from Kazachstan, living in Delhi) is now taking care of conveying e-mails to Pandit Ananta Das Baba, but he's a bit low on resources. He is a web designer without a computer, and is now trying to get one. So I doubt he could convey any more messages anywhere -- I hear there are quite a few coming to Baba.

Any more thoughts?

Be sure to write PLEASE CONFIRM RECEIPT to Yugal to be sure your mail has reached him.

Everyone have a look at Radhakund.com, Yugal Kishor has been very busy. He has two interactive CDs demonstrated there and a new site with lots of Flash.
