Request at Audarya Fellowship -forums - Please give credit to sources

Madhava - Sat, 30 Apr 2005 02:16:38 +0530
I am duplicating this message here, since it may concern many of our posters here whose renderings of verses are being duplicated elsewhere. I have posted this at Audarya Fellowships, a forum provided by Jahnava Nitai Das, disciple of Atmatattva Das, from Bhaktivedanta Ashram, Mysore.

When you post here, please indicate your sources, including the sources of your translations, even if the translators are from outside your ISKCON.

There is another forum where I frequently contribute, and which doesn't share the Saraswata-spirit shared here (and of which the URL is incidentally banned). I notice that people come there to harvest our translations and post them without the comments we made without giving the slightest credit to the devotees who often worked hard in bringing them about.

I wouldn't mind this as much if the people posting them actually had some sense of respect towards the translators. However, when I see someone duplicating material I've produced while making snide remarks at me elsewhere in the forums, I have a hard time taking it in a good spirit.

Thank you very much.

If a moderator feels there is something objectionable to this thread, I would warmly invite him to do the thing a gentle Vaishnava would do and contact me in person instead of just wiping it off the face of the earth, to which I do take offence since this is a legitimate concern.

You are active on other forums too? Please forward at once the blueprints for the Einsteinian Relativistic Time Transmogrification device you obviously have built and use on a daily basis.

I also can't understand the reasoning behind this tactic. Its almost as if it is biased.

No, not really that active, especially not there. I'm currently doing some work in Finnish as well, one's got to do his duty for the motherland they say. This one popped out recently, and I seem to have ended up working on a commentary on Visvanatha's Bhagavatamrita-kana as well aside contributing to one local forum here.

I unfortunately haven't had the time for Quantum Mechanics just yet, I believe they are closer to time warps than the Einstein line of thought. However I'll keep you posted, should something of interest surface. Please do the same.

Sorry.. gotta trump ya here... QM is good for magically moving around in space, but for magically moving around in time, stick with General Relativity. Gravity wells and all that biggrin.gif

Back to the point at hand, not attributing quotes really, really bugs me. Not to mention the GD url being banned... huh? blink.gif

EDIT: Answer to our dreams... maybe. Too bad it already sold!

* You have to admit, its a great backstory biggrin.gif

There were well over a dozen threads threads there lifting stuff out of GD and posting there, the worst case being this one that is practically entirely lifted out of Gadadhar's essay. The moderators seem to have just deleted some six of them now.

Then you'll find this same Krishna Das person who's posting this cutting smart remarks at myself and the entire Gaudiya Discussions populace in other threads. It just really doesn't seem right; either have it and respect it, or find your ideas and inspirations elsewhere. And apparently this person doesn't even care to recognize this at all. thinking.gif

Yes, our URL is banned, we are a dangerous element in their world. Even wisewisdoms.com, hosting Jagat's articles, is banned. I once wrote them a polite letter asking them to clear this up, yet never received the courtesy of a reply.

This reminds me of my experience on that forum in which I have made many devotional posts as 'jayasriradhey' from 1999 and all of them were deleted. Later I assumed different forum names and continued my participation but I was recognized each time for my style and contents of my devotional messages. Finally I stopped even visiting their forums. But I do not regret it as I made many good devotee friends over there.
We'll have to understand their position and forgive the zealous moderators who are trying to do 'seva' to their chosen 'Guru' and mission according to their own set of rules.
I do use the material from GD sometimes on my forums and group, providing a link to the source unless I modify the content.

Its their loss, as far as I can see. Not only is their behaviour disgraceful and disgusting, but isn't it ironic how they embody the exact sectarian "caste goswami" spirit that they claim to vilify so much? Add to that the typical behaviour of ad-hominem attacks and character assassinations and you end up with the meaning of 'asat-sanga tyaga ei vaisnava acara.' I'm sorry I ever went there. You try to help some people and all they do is spit in your face.

Edit: But they're very welcome to come here and steal our stuff anyway. smile.gif

There is this devotee there who needs helpful tips putting in diacritics. I gave him a tip by letting him know that he could use the convertor at Granthamandira site if he would find it of any use. I didn't post any URLs or anything, but by the very mention of 'Granthamandira' my post got deleted. Ridiculous..

Granthamandira is probably your perfect example of a non-sectarian site that only exists to make Gaudiya (and other) texts available to the public, but it is forbidden to talk about it or post links to it. Where's the logic? laugh.gif
