Lalita Sasti -
jagannathdas - Sat, 07 Sep 2002 03:11:21 +0530
I haven't celebrated Lalita Sasti before.
What have the Gaudiya Acharya's written about Lalita Devi's appearance and how we should celebrate this day?
I'm sure that there will be much of interest posted on the day itself, but I would also like to be prepared beforehand, should there be a particular procedure to follow.

Well, the fact is that Lalita Sasti is not mentioned in the Gaudesvara Vaishnava Sammilani Panjika. It comes from the ISKCON Vcal program. I have no idea where they got this date from. At any rate, I left it in to have an excuse to dedicate one day especially for Lalita Sakhi. According to Dhyanacandra's paddhati, Lalita is actually 6 months and 12 days older than Radha, at least this applies in nitya-lila.
On the other hand, interestingly, Gaudesvara Panjika does mention Baladeva Jayanti celebrations in Vraja for Sasti two days prior to Radhastami. This remains a mystery to me.
Sita Devi's appearance on pancami is also not mentioned in Gaudesvara Panjika, but is still included here for the same reason as Lalita Sasti.
I have now amended this information into the calendar entries. This has been the only such occasion up to date. I will continue with the same policy in the future.
