A few years ago I found a book in my father-in-law´s book shelf. It was about Nimai and Vishnupriya. I showed it to GP, who insisted on borrowing it. Father-in-law didn´t want to lend it to him but did it anyway after I said that he would get it back after GP had copied it. After several months I asked father-in-law if he had got the book back, but he hadn´t. He said that GP came one day and said that he had "lost it", but I know for sure that he hadn´t. He offered f-i-l some money for the book, which is quite rare. Now that I see that GP is writing a book on Vishnupriya I can understand that he had use of the book and that he is going to spread his gospel of nagari-vada even more. unsure.gif And it is partly my fault! crying.gif

You don't need to double your efforts and post Announcements about posts you make in other forums at GD, people will find them there. In general it is a bad policy to announce new posts and threads, unless they become directly relevant to another thread. Thank you for posting that other thread, anyway. I have merged these two now.
Madhava - Tue, 30 Nov 2004 01:25:04 +0530
You can add multiple attachments to one post. I bundled them together for you, Jiva.

They were originally in three separate threads so twas I who put them in one place without merging the attachments.

Well, my old friend has been getting considerable attention here lately. I have often wondered how, after getting instruction in his siddha deha from Lalita Prasad Thakur, GP would find a place in the Gauranga-nagari family. But then, he is such an eccentric person that it would be hard for him to surpise me. I met him in LA in 1973, and we spent time together when we were at the ISKCON center in Honolulu in 1974. Although his effort to become a genuine bhakta was genuine, he seemed never to fit very well anywhere (something I can relate to). I met him again some years later, after he divorced, moved to Bengal, and married a Bengali lady. I think I had some idea where his life was headed, but he has clearly exceeded anything I could have expected.

With regard to this book, it looks as though Gadadhar could use an editor.
Jagat - Tue, 30 Nov 2004 08:08:07 +0530
Gadadhar desperately needs an editor. The content is actually pretty good, but he evidently spent more time doodling in English class than mastering the intricacies of the language.

You perhaps know, Babhru, that Bhaktivinoda Thakur served Gaur Gadadhar deities that are now in Birnagar Dvadasa Mandir. Their pictures are somewhere on this website.

There is also a thread somewhere that cites BVT's verses in which he clearly identifies Radha with Gadadhar. Lalita Prasad Thakur also gave a Gaur-Gadadhar yugala mantra to his disciples, which had an inspiring effect on at least one of them, though I cannot say it is a generalized mood amongst Prabhu's disciples.

In his book “Saints of Bengal”, Dr. Kapoor says, “It is difficult to understand what bhava Vamsidasa Baba has towards Goura. It sometimes appeared to be sakhya, sometimes Vatsalya, sometimes Madhura, like that of Nadya-Nagari (lady of Nadiya).”

He continues, “According to Haridasa Gosvami his bhava was of Nadiya-nagara type, because he used to compose songs of this bhava and sing. He has quoted some of theses songs. Two of them are reproduced below:”

“kena giya chilama ganga-tire o nagari
nyana kataksa bane gaura kaila mana churi
ami ekhana ki kari o nagari ki kari"

“ O Nagari! How I repent having gone to the bank og Ganga.
Goura cast a sidelong glance at me and stole my heart.
What shall I do now? O Nagari! What shall I do?"

"Bala go nagari gaura kellena ki
Grha gela kula gela mana kela curi
Sajani! Ekhana ami ki kari"
Nayana kone, kane kane gaura kallena ki
Ami je prana mari gaura kallena ki"

“Tell me O Nagari what Gaura has done to me,
He winked and whispered and did,
I do not know what He did to me.
O Sakhi! Now I do not know what to do.
Life is running out of me. O! What has Gaura done to me?”

What I'm wondering now is if it is a fact that Lalita Prasada-ji gave Goura-Gadadhara Yugal Mantra to some of his disciple, does it has something to do with Vamsidas’s influences over his father, Bhaktivinode? According to a Vamsidasa Babaji’s Bio that I read once, Bhaktivinode Thakura had several encounters with Vamsidas Babaji Maharaja.

And the winds of nadiya blows stronger again….
Jagat - Tue, 30 Nov 2004 18:50:28 +0530
I doubt it. Bhaktivinoda Thakur would have been much older than Vamsidas, who was still active in the 1940's. I am not sure where he got it from; I don't know enough about Bipin Bihari Goswami to be able to say for sure.
Hari Saran - Tue, 30 Nov 2004 19:39:56 +0530
Thanks, but what about Vamsidasa Baba’s mood, deep Nagari?

“kena giya chilama ganga-tire o nagari
nyana kataksa bane gaura kaila mana churi
ami ekhana ki kari o nagari ki kari"

“ O Nagari! How I repent having gone to the bank of Ganga.
Goura cast a sidelong glance at me and stole my heart.
What shall I do now? O Nagari! What shall I do?"

"Bala go nagari gaura kellena ki
Grha gela kula gela mana kela curi

Heavens, people, don't post e-mail addresses in a public forum without obfuscating them! They'll be picked up by spambots in no time at all and added to every other spam list there is. Instead, do something like this: gadadhar_das000[at]yahoo[dot]co[dot]in.

Namaste all.

Here is my translation to a Pada glorifying
Sri Vishnu Priya by Sri Hari Dasa:

user posted image

Dear blessed souls of Kali Yuga!
Please worship the darling Son of Sachi Mata remembering
the lotus-feet of His eternal Consort Vishnupriyaji!

Apart from this sweet loving remembrance,
no one can find a better way to realize Gauranga,
the Divine Beloved of Vishnupriya devi .

Always extol Beloved Gaura, the Enchanter of the Nadia village,
addressing Him as Rasika Nagara,
Connoiseur of passionate amorous Love
and as Vishnupriya Nath- the Lord of Vishnupriya devi.
The eternal dance of 'Raasa' is continuously enjoyed by
the Divine Couple in the courtyard of Mother Sachidevi.

Mahaprabhu greatly relishes when devotees address Him as
Vishnupriya vallabha, the Divine Beloved of Vishnupriyaji,
His favorite widely used epithet! All desires are fulfilled
and devotional perfection is achieved by aspirants by
simply calling the Divine Couple with loving remembrance!

Let all devotees of Kali Yuga chant and sing jubiliantly -
"All glories to 'Vishunpriya-Gaura!"
This incantation is especially made available to the seekers in
this fallen age and very effective in purifying their minds.
It is the supreme mercy showered upon the blessed souls.

Believe me, actually it is more desirable benediction
to be called as the (maid) servant of Vishnipriya
than to be known as the servant of Gaura.
If any devotee ever doubt this subtle truth, Lord Gauranga
would turn His face away from that unfortunate seeker.

The devotee-poet, Sri Hari dasa delightfully declares that though
it is very deep and confidentiall truth to realize the transcendental
state of Vishnupriya devi, a few fortunate surrendered souls
in Kaliyuga are blessed with Divine Grace and lovingly engage
themselves in the devotion of Gaura- Vishnupriya- Bhajan.

Sri Vishnu-priyaa vallabho jayati!
