Who is/was Ananta Vasudeva Dasa? - His relationship with Puri Das and Prof. Sanyal

suryaz - Wed, 04 Aug 2004 15:21:40 +0530
Is Ananta Vasudeva Dasa still alive?

If not when was he born
When did he die

Was he also Puri das and Bhakti Prasad Puri Maharaja?

Did one of his followers cause the death of Prof Synnal or is that just gossip
Madhava - Wed, 04 Aug 2004 16:28:36 +0530
Yes, Ananta Vasudeva Dasa was known as Bhakti Prasad Puri Maharaja after taking sannyAsa. He was called Puri das Mahashaya in his post-Gaudiya Math years.

Who is Prof Synnal?
Jagat - Wed, 04 Aug 2004 17:22:47 +0530
Probably Prof. Sanyal, a Saraswati Thakur disciple who wrote in English.
Madhava - Wed, 04 Aug 2004 17:42:07 +0530
I have no idea about what killed Prof Sanyal. If you haven't seen any evidence, I'd say it's a rumor. Where did you hear that from, anyway?
Tamal Baran das - Wed, 04 Aug 2004 19:10:50 +0530
I have some stuff by Professor Sanyal somewhere, Suryaz. I just have to dig it out of my attic. If i find it, i will let you know.

No

I did not think I wrote "Ananta das baba"

I thought I wrote Ananta-vasudeva-dasa [the GM devotee who was the successor of BSST in the GM after he departed]

He and Kunja babu were the two who formed Gaudiya mission and Sri Caitanya Math post 1936

Was one of this Ananta-vasu-dasa's followers, the person who caused the death of Prof Sanyal - Or was it a follower of Kunja babu who attacked him?

Or is this gossip or is it fact?

Oh I see. That makes more sense. I have amended my first answer accordingly.

Unfortunately, I have no information about this. Where did you hear of this?

The only GM-related death I can think of occured when BP Keshava and his crew attempted to invade another Gaudiya Math in the early years of the splinter group wars. One brahmacari got killed on the way.

Thanks Madhava.

Yes it is in folio ... but I 'm not sure whose side P. Sannyal [did he have a devotee name?] was on Viz:

Gaudiya mission of Anantavasu or,
Caitanya Math of Kunja babu....

The initiated name of Professor Nishikanta Sanyal is Bhakti Sadhukar Prabhu. He died of natural causes.

You can purchase several books of his here:

Proff. Nisikanta Sanyal known as Narayan das Bhaktisudhakara. As far as I know he was on the side of Puri Goswami and Sundarananda Vidyavinode. Many of the writings in English that are attributed to Bhaktisiddhanta were actually penned by Sanyal and he was one of the most prolific contributors to the old Harmonist Magazine. Judging from his writing he was very much into the ideals of Bhaktisiddhanta, but after the split I don't know what happened to him. He is certainly still held in the greatest reverance in the Gaudiya Mission, which is the branch formed by Puri Goswami. His translation of the Adi Kanda of CB makes excellent reading, if you can get it.
