Receiving Sri Gauranga at Path Bari, Kolkata - with annual Puja at the Ganga
nabadip - Wed, 16 Jun 2004 13:58:55 +0530
Gangaji outside Pat Bari in Kolkata. It is at the place where Sri Gauranga heard Bhagavata-pat read to him by a Bhakta whom he later called Bhagavata Acharya. Sri Ramadas Babji, disciple of Sri Radharaman Charan das Babaji founded the Math. It is a big monastery complex with about 30 male bhaktas living there permanently. Structurewise it is comparable to Samaj Bari in Nabadwip Dham.
This is the comment of our learned friend dasanudasji as to the deeper meaning of the function:
QUOTE
This is annual celebration of GaurLila when mahaprabhu came to barahanagar to Bahgavat achaya's house to listen Vagavata. And after listening Gaur awarded Vagavat Acharya title to him. After that when Mahaprabhu wanted to leave that place Vagavat acharya was unable to bear the pain of unavoidable separation with lord and started crying . That time Gaur gave him his Sri Charan Paduka (Sandal) and asked told him he will be with him all the time.
Still Charan Paduka of Mahaprabhu is kept at Sri Pathbari Asram for darshan.
Every year this lila is remembered with large festival.

Nice darshan from Montreal! This just made my day! Being in India it was not possible, but it's the vaishnava sanga through the internet which made possible to see such a celebration!
As I dreamt about Ganga-puja I have to do it. Now I know where to go but when? Is there a particular time when one does Ganga-puja?

Those rituals is not exactly ganga puja. They were recieving/welcoming Mahaprabhu at the banks of Ganga. As Mahaprabhu comes every year to listen Vagavatam from Vagavatacharya. Now the kutir of Vagavatacharya is in Pathbari Asram. That is gaurlila celebration.

It is great to know the deeper meaning of the function. I have renamed the thread accordingly, I hope to the satisfaction of all the vaishnavas.

Dear Nabadip, I was there at Path Bari right around that time - too bad we didn't meet! There are some great Mahatmas at that Ashram - I hope you were able to meet them. Thank you for taking the pics and posting them!
