In the nineteenth century, a sailor on a ship near the mouth of the Amazon River was startled by a rumbling sound like distant thunder. He looked into the distance to see a huge, white wave of water approaching the vessel “until it seemed as if the whole ocean had risen up and was coming, charging and thundering down.” What he witnessed was the Amazon River tidal bore, or the pororoca, a single wave that can reach fifteen feet high as if gushes upstream against the current at fifteen miles per hour, momentarily reversing the flow of the great river.
Many Years later....Picuruta Salazar rides the "Pororoca,"
a wave that flows upstream and reaches a height of 13 feet on the world's largest river, the Amazon, in Brazil. The Pororoca happens every year during February and March when the ocean whips back on the heavily drained Amazon and creates a giant swell that flows upstream for hundreds of miles. Salazar, a Brazilian, rode the muddy brown wave for 37 minutes, traveling about 7 miles through the rainforest.

Is it just me, or do these pictures seem very dour? Is this the impression he was going for? Its kinda strange for me... I'm reminded of a recent post by Jagat on 'joy', and I find none of it in these portraits... I do like the 'Dhama' series, but I find the 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' series very off-putting... maybe if the 'Artist Statement' was complete it would qualify my experience...

It was a beautiful eclipse last night. There were clouds here, but not too many and they added to the spectacle. Unfortunately I had forgotten to bring my camera...

Here's a nice couple of sunset shots that I took on my recent visit to the famous marble Swaminarayan temple here in the UK. They look different because I was experimenting with light filtration. The first is an exposure with the "auto" filter and the second is an exposure with the "night" filter. Both pics were taken with a Sony T3.
