Devotional Art And Photos - Post them here

Madhava - Mon, 17 May 2004 19:20:56 +0530
I'm sure many if you find beautiful pieces of art or photos out there on the internet. Please do share if you find something of particular interest! Remember to also post in a link to the original website, if available.

Remember to save the pictures and attach them to your posts, otherwise we'll eventually end up with a thread with half the pictures missing. Also, try to keep the size down to something decent, width a maximum of 640 pixels or along those lines, and preferably below 300 KB.

Oh yes, and don't post just whatever you come across, let's try to keep up the quality.

I'm starting with the latest paintings of Vrindavan Das I received today in e-mail.

Dhamesvara Mahaprabhu
Nitai from Ekachakra

Namaste.
These deities exactly look like Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu at Sri Vishnupriyaji Mandir in Navadvipa Dham. huh.gif
I was surprised to see the Lord with inviting arms and hands instead of His usual uplifted arms.
When I inquired about this, the priestess there has told me that Mahaprabhu here, is soliciting the alms of our Divinelove! wub.gif
I was also thrilled to touch His ' silver paadukas' (sandals) remembering the originals which were given to and worshipped by Sri Priyaji.
Does anyone have a picture of Mahaprabhu in Vishnupriyaji's Mandir?

Jiva Goswami's last will and testament. As you can see, the document is quite damaged, but still pretty much readable. Krishnadas Kaviraja's signature is on the other side. I'll have to scan that in.

This document was discovered in the Radha Damodar library, falling apart along with a lot of other valuable stuff. It is now being preserved in the Vrindavan Research Institute.

does anyone know how I can see that painting of a peacock painted by a blind old man in Varshana, possibly a sannyasi? It was printed in BTG a long time ago. Anyone who stares at the painting long enough becomes a gopi. It is painted on a wall and is very large. It is 100 years old or so.

Too muscly? Oy! tongue.gif Come on, shall we call Krishna anything but "handsome?" smile.gif

Well, I admit that Krishna looks a bit more like Dwarakanaath in this picture. And Dwarakanaath, though rumoured to have left His flute in Vrindavana, actually does appear with a flute in Dwaraka (though you might not have seen it).

But I don't think it is Venugopalaswamy (aka Dwarakanaatha) because there is a pot near Radha's (?) feet. I dunno, what's your opinion?

The famous scene of Krishna appeasing an aggrieved Satyabhama. Satyabhama is annoyed that Krishna visited Rukmini first, and retreats to her room. Krishna follows her in, and tries to apologize with the beautiful number "Aligithiva Sakhee Priya". Satyabhama was having none of this, and kicks Krishna's crown off. Far from being offended, Krishna suggests that he is more worried about her leg getting hurt by touching his harsh crown in the padyam "Nanu Bhavadeeya".

From Sri Krishnarjuna Yuddham, right?

There is a similar scene in Sri Krishna Tulabharam, and that is the scene that I was telling you about with the song that I love so much! I wish I could find that song on the net! Oh!

Yes, it sounds like Venkateshwara's story... "oh, did you hurt your foot?" Meanwhile relieving you of your pride in such a sneaky fashion that it doesn't hurt... expert physician of the soul, that Krishna! Just like daddy telling a story while taking out a splinter, so you notice what He is saying rather than noticing the pain...

Oh KRISHNA! blush.gif

The set image that I have in mind about "Gopis doing Katyayani Vrata" to achieve Krishna as husband. Not quite the braj village atmosphere, but nothing beats the Bengali backdrop. smile.gif

Ah yes! I liked the "gallery" link. Some good pictures of Lord Varaha, who seems to me a bit difficult to find. I especially like to see Him with Bhudevi (rather than the globe, say) in His arms or on His tusks (as shown below). Thanks!
