Identifying Yourself -
Madhava - Mon, 17 May 2004 18:51:07 +0530
Betal Nut, since you have been participating in our forums for some time now, some members are curious as to with whom they are interacting. In general it has been our policy to be open about our identities. Would you like to, therefore, shortly tell us all who you are?
Actually, everyone could put in a line or two about themselves in their
profiles (under the "Edit Profile info" field), since there are always new people coming in who would like to know who we are and who won't be digging through all those old threads. While you're at it, you could add a photo of yourself, too. Currently only five members have posted their photos, and four others a picture of their gurus etc. (although I am not entirely certain whether it might actually be Braja in the picture).
Jagat - Mon, 17 May 2004 20:01:57 +0530
I agree with this. Some of you may have observed my public irritation with Dirty Hari, which grew mostly out of his facetious response to a request like this one.
I feel strongly that we should protect the high quality of this website by preventing frivolous posters coming here and using aliases to say things that they would normally not in ordinary social relations.
Some people may feel a reluctance to say too much about themselves, often due to close involvement with one or the other of the Gaudiya organizations. I can understand and sympathize with this. One such person wrote me a nice letter in a PM explaining why he was reluctant to make such information public. I appreciated it greatly, leading me to believe that these kinds of behind-the-scenes networks also strengthen the Gaudiya Discussions Forum.
But, I don't think that age, sex, nationality, experience in Krishna consciousness (involvement with gurus), general orientation toward KC (hate it, love it, like lots of Tantric sex, but only between consenting adults, etc.), etc., should compromise anyone. Rather, such revelations would help create the atmosphere of trust and understanding that we would like to see develop here.
The vision of the founder of this forum is to create a true virtual community where people of like mind and interests can share doubts and aspirations in relative security. In other words, a place where we can make meaningful friendships. In the long run, we even hope that it will expand from the virtual into real communities.

That was me in a future life, although the praying-while-going-under motif is current. I've updated my pic. Somehow I don't seem to have many photos of myself.

When you add your own photo, it is a good idea to put in the proper dimensions below the upload box to prevent your photo from being all square and out of proportion. At least in the more modern versions of Windows, you can click once on the image and see a bunch of information on the left side of the folder in which you are. Look up the height and width there.

Well, I'll go ahead and present a bit of biographical information about myself:
I left ISKCON on the same day Madhava was born, June 11, 1980.

You don't have to do it here. Just put a little something on your profile. Click on your own name and then on "Edit your profile."

By the way there is a discussion about real identities, are you Citrakara Prabhu from Switzerland ( the only Vaishnava from Switzerland with the ability to speak), the ex-TP from Bombay who tried to smuggle 3 kg cannabis from Bombay to Frankfurt and who was convicted to undergo a quite long punishment in prison?
This is not what I mean.
First of all, you don't put people on the spot, especially not where illegal activities or embarrassing information are involved. This kind of question really belongs in a personal message. Use the PM function.
We don't want these forums to degenerate into a chat group.
Thank you.

Must you ask yourself?
Openmind - Tue, 18 May 2004 13:07:17 +0530
I dont see what you mean, I do not have any other nicks, if this is what you referred to.
Anand - Tue, 18 May 2004 13:18:36 +0530
Do you have a name? ten computers? nine lives, eight hours to sleep, seven days to work, six favorite goswamis, five gold and saphire rings, four digits on your bank account, three days to decide, two maidens-awaiting and a patridge in a pear tree? Please tell me more about yourself.

Looks like everyone's running out of things to say.

I'm gonna start crying real soon. People, get real.
If you need to comment on each other and do it over several posts, I suggest you use the dedicated
tit-for-tat thread.

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."
What are you up to, these days? What's the direction?

Why can't I be both? The Sky-Cald is for a little fun..now is that not allowed here from time to time?
Tell me now...
Coz if you folks are not into a little playfullness here and there..
I won't participate in your forums.
Madhava - Tue, 18 May 2004 19:21:05 +0530
That playfulness should be balanced with some substantial contributions. Then it's fine. Would that be reasonable?
Jagat - Tue, 18 May 2004 19:27:19 +0530
I am feeling that the general quality of the postings on these forums has deteriorated considerably over the past week or so. I think that frivolous posting alienates serious participants.
I would rather see more contributions from people who have a solid foundation of knowledge and education, and who have something profound and original to contribute.
I am not against fun, but there are plenty of places for shallow discussion. I know that you are capable of serious thought, Bangli, so why don't you reserve your participation here for your more serious side?

That is quite reasonable indeed, yes.
Can I keep my
Sky-Clad Tantrika if I use it in an appropriate manner?.

Heh. Probably not connected; I was amused when I saw your DOB on your profile and thus got reminded of a day of decision for me.
One of my current challenges is to approach the astrological key to CrImad bhAgavatam. I have taken up that challenge upon reading e. kRSNamacArya's book _Spiritual Astrology_.

I certainly agree. Without that balance any forum would be a waste of our energy both for the providers and participants.
BTW I've updated my bio profile.
