Sometimes I surprise myself. I am typing out a text and I think, I know this. Then I realize that I used to know the verses by heart, but I have long forgotten it. This it Kunja-vihari ashtaka from Stavamala, by Rupa Goswami. The metre and rhyme make it very charming.

The same lovely color as the sapphire
His ears decorated with blossoming kadamba flowers,
necklaces of gunja berries dangling over his chest--
may the beautiful Krishna be ever-victorious
as he cavorts in the forest bowers of Vrindavan.
Forgive my off-the-cuff translation.

QUOTE(Ananga @ April 12 2002,14:54)
Emerald (green) and not sapphire (blue)? That is interesting.
indra nIlamaNi = blue sapphire
marakata maNi = emerald

Here is my favorite verse from 'Sri Krishna Karnamritam' in which Lord Krishna is described as 'marakata maNi nIlaM' (blue emerald) by the Rasik saint, Sri Lila Suka Bilvamangala Thakur:
madhuram adhara bimbe maJjulaM manda hAse
ziziram amRta nAde zItalaM dRSTi pAte
vipulam aruNa netre vizrutaM veNu nAde
marakata maNinIlaM bAlam Alokaye nu?

Jaya Sri Radhey!
Here is a soul-swinging 'Kriti'- Kirtana by Saint Sri Tyagaraja of the Holy Trinty of Carnatic Music, in which Lord Ramacandra was also addressed as 'marakatAGga'.
This Kirtana was composed for setting to music in the 'Raga' - 'Hindola' (meaning: swing) !
Song: manasu lOni marmamulu
----------------------
raagam: hindOLam
taaLam: aadi
Composer: Tyaagaraaja
Language: Telugu
pallavi
manasu loni marmamulu thelusuko!
maana rakshaka! marakathaanga! naa-
anupallavi
inakulaaptha! neeve gaani ve
inakulaaptha neeve gaani verevaru leru, aanandahridaya!
caraNam
munupu prema gala doravai sadaa
canavu nelinaadi goppa gaadaiyaa!
kanikarammu tho nee vela naa
karamu battu! tyaagaaraja vinuta!
----------------------------------
Meaning:
Oh One with the radiant hue of the emerald!
Pray be aware of the yearning of my heart.
Oh Protector of devotees from disappointment, insults and disgrace!
Oh Benefactor of the solar race!
You are the sole refuge and none else.
Oh Aananda Hridaya - the One with a heart brimming over with bliss!
In the past, as my kindly Lord, you have protected me with affection and compassion.
But of what avail is it if you do not deign to clasp my hand and grace me when I need you most?
O gracious Lord, implored by Sri Tyagaraja!

Jaya Sri Radhey! Lord Sri Ramacandra's appearance day will be celebrated on April 21, 2002. at all Vaishnava Temples.
Here are Prayers for meditation from the 'dazAvatAra stotra' composed by the Rasik Saint Sri Jayadeva Kaviraja in 'Gita Govindam':
vitarasi dikSu raNe dikpati kamanIyam,
dazamukha mauli baliM ramaNIyam,
kezava! dhRta rAma zarIra!
jaya jagadIza! hare!
As an opulent, desirable offering to the gods
who guard the ten directions of the world ,
O Lord, You have hurled the ten heads of
mighty Ravana in the victorius battle field.
O Lord of the Universe!
You are my Beloved Kesava,
Who has assumed the Divine Form
of Prince Ramacandra!
All Glories to You, O my Lord Hari!
(Sri Dasavatara Stotram - verse.7)
janaka sutA kRta bUSaNa!

O God of Victory!
O My Beloved Hari!

Having made the Divine Daughter of King Janaka,
Sitadevi as Your Own precious Adornment,
You have destroyed the ten-headed mighty demon,
Ravana in the battle defeating his general, Dooshana!

Jaya Sri Radhey! Happy Celebrations of Sri Rama Navami to all devotee of the Lord.
The wonderful story of the great devotee of Sri Rama, Murari Gupta can be found in Sri Caitanya Caritamrita, Madhyalila, chapter 15, texts 137-157.
SRI RAMA JAYA RAMA JAYA JAYA RAMA !
It was Sri Caitanya himself who tried to induce Murari Gupta to switch his devotion from Rama to Krishna. Now here, for the pleasure of those who have no access to Sri Caitanya Caritamrita, are some key texts:
154. "The servitor must have love and affection for the lotus feet of the Lord exactly like this. Even if the Lord wants separation, the devotee cannot abandon the shelter of his lotus feet."
155. "'Just to test your firm faith in your Lord, I requested you again and again to change your worship from Lord Ramachandra to Lord Krishna.'
156. "In this way I congratulated Murari Gupta, saying, 'Indeed, you are the incarnation of Hanuman. Consequently, you see the eternal servant of Lord Ramachandra. Why should you give up the worship of Lord Ramachandra and his lotus feet?'"
157. "I accept this Murari Gupta as my life and soul. When I hear of his humility, it perturbs my very life."
Rama Lakshmana Janaki,
Jai bolo Hanuman ki!

Having been separated from Her Beloved Rama,
and meditating in Her mind upon the
Blissful form of Her Lord, Sitadevi cried aloud,
"O RaghunAtha!
O King of Raghu dynasty!
Save me! Save me!",
taking the Names of "Govinda, Damodara and Madhava".

Having been abducted by Ravana and brought into the middle
of the vast ocean, helpless Sitadevi called out,
"O Vishnu! O the Giver of joy to pious gods
of heaven and the Tormentor of evil demons!
O Govinda, the Delight of senses!
O Damodara, Who accepts the rope of Bhakti around the waist!
O Madhava, the Beloved husband of Lakshmidevi!
Please be kind to me and save me with Your Grace."

O Radhey! Just as You are My Beloved Soul and the Queen of Gokula,
in the same way You manifest as Maha Lakshmi and Sarasvati in Vaikuntha,
and also as Martyalakshmi, the consort of Lord Vishnu.
You appear as the opulent form of Santi who is the wife of Dharmaputra.
You alone are Bharati Sati, the consort of Kapila Deva.
You manifest in Dvaraka, as Mahalakshmi, Queen Rukmini and Your Shadow Itself takes up the form of Draupadi Sati.
You ALONE appear in Mithila as Sita Devi and become the Beloved of Sri Rama and are abducted by Ravana.

You are Radhika, the eternal Mistress of all Gopis in Goloka.
You are also identified as the origin of Prakriti, and as Savitri in Lord Brahma's abode.
You are worshipped as the Sacred Plant Tulasi and
as ever purifying River of the three worlds, Ganga, and in part as Mother Earth.

[Sri Rupa Manjari addressed a girlfriend who was very devoted to Subala, saying:] Sakhi! When a quarrel arises between Sri Krishna and His beloveds in the course of their pastimes, Subala goes to Krishna’s sweethearts and pacifies them with different humble words, thus convincing them to return to Him. He makes a wonderful playbed fit for erotic pastimes for Sri Krishna in the kunja-cottages, and when Krishna becomes tired of lovemaking and falls exhausted on His beloved’s (Radha’s) breasts, Subala picks up a fan and fans Them. For which services is Subala not eligible?”

Sri Radhika says to Her Sakhi:
My mind counts the multitude of His virtues,
it does not get angry thinking of His roaming-about
even by mistake, and it possesses delight,
it pardons Him of His transgressions from afar;Even while fickle Krishna delights among the girls without Me,
yet again My perverse mind loves Him!
What am I to do?
