My world cup - IMS dialer?

Advaitadas - Thu, 22 Dec 2005 15:13:43 +0530
Yesterday I logged in on my adsl connection and instead of getting the automatic connection through my username and password I got refused because the username was changed into 'Worldcup272' and no password was filled in at all. When I changed back to my regular user name and password later I was given the choice to log in as My world cup (a new option!) or under my correct username. Inadvertently I chose for world cup, so I have been surfing with that ' other provider' yesterday afternoon and evening. This morning I ran Ad-aware and found there was a dialer called IMS, which

QUOTE
Dialer - The application is designed to change the user's DUN (Dial Up

Networking) settings to dial numbers that the user does not know about, to

connect to a number in stealth, and/or to avoid being detected by the user

such as dialing expensive connections where the user has not authorized the

connection.

Does that mean that folks have been using my connection yesterday to dial expensive numbers? I thought this wasnt possible with an adsl connection! I cant seem to remove this extra ' provider' from my login panel. How to remove this dialer and how to remove this extra provider?

OK I phoned my provider and my phone company and both told me no one has dialled on this connection. My question remains: Isnt it so that dialers cannot abuse a broadband connection? So I dont really have to worry about anything?
I decided to install Norton Personal Firewall, but the copy I have dates from August 2001 - isnt this too old? Also, I was told that the Live Update facility wont work for me. Does that make this program useless? And finally, do I need to uninstall my windows firewall to make this Norton Firewall effective?

I got this thing called Stopzilla that works in real time while your on the computer and I have to say that this is a MONSTER I have Norton Corporate a gift and Spy Bot and spy blaster and MSN firewall and none of that could remove certain things from my computer or keep certain stuff from cropping up all the time. But this STOPZILLA thing fixed it all and firewalled in real time as I was on the computer cleaning up and stopping viruses and cookies and all of that as I worked and man it was effective. Get Stopzilla and your worries are over.
