Pronouncing sanskrit verses - In Bhagavad Gita

Hare Krsna!

Let me be the first to christen this forum with this humble request to the Vaisnavas.

I am desiring to learn how to pronounce sanskrit, especially the meter for the Bhagavad Gita, so I will be able to quote verses, and with the possibility of holding simple discourses in the future for friends and family (nothing more than the simple ABC's of Krsna Consciousness for those who are interested). Are there some websites or other resources that would be helpful in this matter? At this point I am not so keen yet to try and learn to speak/write in sanskrit, but I'd like to be able to have a firm grasp on being able to read and pronounce it, and some simple knowledge of some different meters. Any help in this matter would be most appreciated. Thank you.

This article of Jagadananda's should be of interest. I hear there's a CD that goes along with it in works, stay tuned for that.

Dandavats.

Madhava, thank you for your suggestion. I read through Jagat's article but maybe it is a little too advanced for me. I am looking for something more simple, like a website that has Gita verses with audio along with it so I can mimic as best as possible.

What I may actually need is some sort of tool for pronouncing the different consonants and vowels. I have referenced the pronounciation guide numerous times in the Bhagavad Gita, but it is a slow and painful process for a fool like me. Is there a song like the english alphabet song? smile.gif

What I would really like is a website that had audio where they recite verses similiar to how Srila Prabhupada used to have his devotees do it. Reciting the whole verse, then reciting each individual word and then the english translation. I think I need to grasp the very basics before trying for anything more.

Thanks for your help and time.
