Murti Search - Looking for an unserved Murti....

Srijiva - Fri, 06 May 2005 23:06:42 +0530
Jaya Radhe!

First, Please forgive me , as I wholeheartedly do not wish to cause any disturbances. I respect this site immensely and have learned a great deal which has broadened my understanding of Gaudiya Vaishnavism and its history.

At the present time, I feel that perhaps I should continue forth and receive Harinama initiation. It has been a huge goal of mine and I am so very close to acheiving it. My heart seems to compell me to do this. My heart also seems to compell me to continue to learn more about Raganuga bhakti and to read more of Sri Ananta das babajis books. I trust that members here will understand this and be supportive. I cherrish this site and its members and will continue to learn from all of you. So with that out of the way..... smile.gif

My wife and I are in the process of completing an altar we have been working on for some time. My desire is to acquire a Murti of Prabhupada. Seeing that many here have started off under the guidence of Srila Prabhupada, I thought perhaps, just maybe, there might be someone who has a Murti of Him that they are no longer serving? Brass or resin, it does not matter. Please let me know via PM.

If there is any other paraphenalia that you may not be in need of, do let me know as well? I have 9 inch Sri Sri Gaur-Nitai, and the altar will be big enough that I will also have room for Jagannatha, Baladeva and Subhadra...which I will purchase, unless there is a set that my wife and I could adopt from someone?

I do hope that this was the right section to post this in...Madhava, please feel free to move it, if you feel it is more appropriate elsewhere?

Again, I do hope I am not being disrespectful, as that is the last thing I would want.

Best of luck on your journey, Neal. A traditional Vaisnava prayer comes to mind:

In the scrabble of devotional life
May you find the letters that are dear to your heart
...And avoid the grape kool-aid.

Since we are on this topic:

I have been thinking for a long time about serving a Salagrama-sila Thakura. If anyone has any leads, please kindly let me know.

ebay, more eBay.

Note that they are not actually for sale. You can buy a pack of incense for $599 and receive the donated salagram. I've heard of Chitragupta keeping karmic records, but is there a legal department in Vaikuntha?

You may want to contact Jaya Tirtha Charanji thru his salagram site.

Actually, he has a link to the same kind of donation/gift thing: http://www.salagram.net/sstp-puja-items.html

Buy a puja article, get a sila.

And the dude there holds the shalagram in his left hand to demonstrate it... blink.gif

thanks for the info brajaji prabhu. I might give it a try, altough I have some (irrational?) reservations... something deep inside is telling me that it is not the right way to become a Salagrama Sila servant, or maybe I'm just not ready for this level of sadhana... crying.gif

I actually had a couple of lines regarding my thoughts on the issue of "getting" deities/salagram in my earlier post but removed them for fear of offending anyone. If a sincere desire is there, I'm sure that Krsna will come but I don't think anything beats receiving your istha-deva from guru (diksha or siksha), just as Das Gosvami received Giridhari from Mahaprabhu. That kind of exchange is both immanent and transcendent, thus solving the issues of qualification and the vicissitudes of the mind.

of course I agree with you here and really appreciate that comment. yet, alas! I'm currently somewhat "in between" my serious siksha gurus (in the "living" category), as I have been going through a period of "spiritual re-evaluation" in that area. I have a deep faith in our Gaudiya tradition, in a very non-sectarian way. I'm attracted to sadhus who think in a similar way, yet I'm not strongly attached to any one in particular. If I had the time (and perhaps a strong conviction that it is the right approach), I would love to make a pilgrimage to Salagrama myself, to see if my Istha-deva is waiting for me there.
