A question - From Srimad Hridayananda Das Babaji Maharaja's conversation

dasanudas - Fri, 06 May 2005 19:41:08 +0530
Why we take the name of Krishna?
Madhava - Fri, 06 May 2005 21:09:26 +0530
Do you mean to ask why we take the name of Krishna instead of another name, or why we take any name whatsoever?

Yes I meant here why we chant the name of krishna?
Madanmohan das - Fri, 06 May 2005 21:24:58 +0530
Or adopt the uttering of the name. Anyway, is it a trick question like play the fool to catch the wise? in the best possible humour. As we have, at least to some degree, been given to understand that Sri Krsna is svayam bhagavan, cat-cit-ananda svarupa, lila parayana etc., etc,. And on the authority of the scriptures the prescribed method of having communion with him is by taking his name.
Madanmohan das - Fri, 06 May 2005 21:33:53 +0530
I just finished the Ajamila episode in the 6th Skandha and my, oh my, there's enough reason for taking Hari nama. And in Sri Rupa's Namastaka you will also find, well reasoned, the imperitive for taking Hari nama. Therein he says that nama and the person are one in respect to Hari, still the vAvaka- the word, is more compassionate than the vAcya-thing denoted by the word, and so even those who have made offence to the vAcya can be redemed by the vAcaka, not only that sadAnandAmbhudhau majjati , they get constantly immersed in the ocean of bliss.

Seeing as this is Srivas Angan, we might as well add that, for manjari bhava upasakas, Radha is served by the chanting of Krsna's name.

Madhava? Gaurasundara? Braja? Anybody?
Just because we want to? We like it? We get something astonishing? We've been told to? We just became incomprehensibly attracted, by some how or other. But you want rahasyamoy katha, which I have not.
Gaurasundara - Fri, 06 May 2005 21:48:19 +0530
To catch someone's attention, you call their name. cool.gif
Madhava - Fri, 06 May 2005 21:53:44 +0530
I like to think of it more as a contemplative practice, we sit down to think of him through the medium of his names.

After catching His attention and maintaining it, there reciprocation comes. Out of His infinite mercy when He sees you chanting His names and calling out of love for Him, He bestows on you the boon of tears.

‘gaurAGga’ bolite habe pulaka-zarIra, ‘hari hari’ bolite nayane ba’ be nIra - When will my body shiver at the chanting of Sri Gauranga's name? When will tears flow from my eyes at the mention of Sri Hari's name? - Sri Narottam das Thakur.

With tears pouring down your cheeks, bow your head down to His feet and thank Him for the beautiful relationship that you share, and humbly pray for it to continue eternally.

No longer is Kali to be feared, for Sri Nityananda - the embodiment of compassion - has given the Holy Name even to the untouchables (what to speak of everyone else)!

It is really great to hear such a profound explanation for the cause of chanting name of Sri Krishna.

My pranam to all.

I have another thought here:

We chant the name of Krishna to make Gaurasundara happy. We have no other business.

Now the question is why we want to make Gaurasundara happy?

The purpose of making Gaurachandra happy is to make his dearest Nitayananda prabhu and Advaita prabhu happy. Here Nityananda Prabhu is the advocate of supreme/federal court where Gaurachandra is acting a judge to determine whom to give premabhakti. As Gaur is bound by rule of scripture to judge the qualification of recipient of premabhakti, he will try to judge the quality of the aspirant. But how then he will be called as "Patita Pabana Hari"? Because we are all fallen patita jiva, even Brahmha is not qualified for premabhakti, forget about us. So very less people will attain premabhakti. In order to overcome this, Lord uses his own trick. He assured us by as "Aham Bhaktaparadhinam" ( "I am controlled by my devotee"). So most merciful Gaura intelligently uses this trick to overcome the disqualification of jiva for receiving premabhakti. That is why He asked Sriman Nitaynanda to give shelter of all non qulaified jiva. He asked Nitaichand "Whenever I will take the seat of the judge to determine the quality of Jiva, you should act as advocate for them, and as I am completely under control of you, I will be bound to agree with you to give premabhakti even to non-qualified fellows ". So whenever aspirants approaches Prabhu Nitai for the greed of premabhakti he will be assured that he will win the case at the court of Lord.

Now how we can convince Nityananda about our case? How we can please him?

We can only seek the shelter of Sri Nitaynanda by receiving the mercy of Sri GuruDeva and Vaishnavas. We know as Raghunath Das Goswami was eager to attain lotus feet of Sri GauraSundara, he was unable to achieve his goal at intial phase, as he was not going through the shelter of Sri Nitai. After Panihati Chinda Mohotsova ( Famous celebration of Chida mohotsov on the command of Nitayananda prabu) Raghunath Das Goswami wanted to take shelter to Nitananda prabhu.

But how did he approached Nitai Chand, as Nitaynanda only listyen to his devotee , cleverly RaghuNath Das Goswami requested his prayer to Raghava Pandit. And by the mercy of this great Vaishnava he was able to attain the blessings of Lord Nitayanadana.

In our case also the easy way to receive Sri Nitai's kripa to serve and please Sri GuruDeva and Vaishnava.

The best way to please Sri GuruDeva and Vaishnava is to sing the glory of Lord. To chant his name . That is the best service to please them.

So we chant name of Krishna to please Sri Guru and Vaishnava, inorder to attain mercy of Vaishnava -> Sri gurdeva -> Sri Nitaynanada ->to attain lotus feet of Gaurachandra and to attain Jugal Charan Seva at Sri VrindaVana.

Jay Nitai.

Jay Gaura Hari.
