1.4 Bhakti rasAnuBhUti

Bhakti rasAnuButi is an emotional ecstasy felt by an individual who may be a singer or a music lover. It is felt when the BhAvartham of a lyric/kRiti is embellished by music comprised of Sruti, svaram rAgam and tALam appropriately to reflect the Bhakti Bhava associated with a lyric. Then, Bhakti rasAnuBUti makes one to identify oneself with the composer's state of mind or the manOdharma. At that point, the composer (who may be the singer), the singer and the audience are in the same state of sublime peace. That is heavenly music which leads to Bhakti rasa siddhi.

I thought this was a wonderful description, and illustration of the "communicability" of devotional sentiments through music and sound. Any comments? smile.gif

It's very much the kind of thing said in Rasa Darsan, quoting from Abhinava Gupta and other preceptors of rasa. There he speaks of the rasa of poetry, drama, songs etc. In fact Sriman Mahaprabhu has said that without literary emelishments, alankara, rasa cannot be expressed. His actual words are;
