Being you is not as great as being Gaura Das - on the parity of souls

QUOTE
Jagat in this other topic:
Being you is not as great as being Gaura Das.

Be true to oneself ever so small
for greatness may make your greater fall
Jagat - Fri, 13 Aug 2004 07:34:37 +0530
But if truth to self means to serve the Great,
then smallestness doth a greatestness make.

Ah..

But the Advaitin reading of texts
We find,
Is hard to leave behind;
After 50 you find that sex
love subsides,
Leaving only the formless white light of Mind.

And while he plays the tabla
Mrdangas
Are the drums Gora's men love to hear;
Then while I sing of Gora, Gora, Gora
My friend sings Shiva,
Om namo Shiva...

I wouldn't want to Talasiga what is right,
nor will I. If his heart is in the light,
or if it's in Jatadhari's jats,
I will not pester him with buts.

It's his talk of Radha that confused
me and that is why I mused
that he was concealing
some thought behind his feeling.

(Or should that be feeling behind his thought?
I hope so, maybe not. I don't know what.)
Talasiga - Fri, 13 Aug 2004 08:28:44 +0530
Not every tabla is Talasiga sung.
But, in every drum Gauranga rejoices in hearing mridang,
and, in every soul, however small, he hears Harinaam.

I feel lonely, waiting, dreaming
for the sound of the tabla,
and then I awake,
and find I'm in my office,
what a bore...

If you hear the Song of Shiva
No place can bore you.

Have you sung the Mahamantra
in His Raag?
Many Gaudiyas do.

So many paths meet in song
So the singer is lost
and Gauranga finds

where is Radha
in this greatestness

Madhava - Fri, 13 Aug 2004 18:02:06 +0530
Both without and within she is,
helping in our God's identity crisis.

If truth to self
means to serve the small
then, greatness in the smallness take ...

In this greatest-smallestness
And God's strange "identity crisis"
The meaning should not be lost-
When God plays devotee
Do not thrust
The greatestness upon Him
Lest you, becoming smallestness beside Him
Perhaps by accident, think yourself to be great...

Kudos if you can decipher that one, and sorry for shunning poetic conventions...

(With all my love)

Though justice may be found in a law, not all laws are just.
Though conventions may be found in poetry, not all poetry has conventions.

So it is with smallness and greatness.
