LaTeX Typesetting of Devanagari - Typesetting using LaTex

bhrahmaloka - Fri, 04 Jun 2004 04:11:25 +0530
Anyone here have experience typesetting Devanagari using LaTex? I'm pretty good with LaTeX itself, having typeset some stuff in Hieroglyphics with it (so I've used it for 'non-roman' languages), but there are a few different packages for devanagari, and I'm curious if anyone has used either one? If someone has, some sample documents would do wonders biggrin.gif

Doesn't Nitai Das use LaTeX for all his typesetting, you'll see some examples of his stuff as pdf files at bhajankutir.net.

I had TeX installed on my machine at one point but the thought of going through such a steep learning curve was just too much for me especially since I'm so used now to wisisyg DTP and and am pretty well sorted in the font departmant

For LaTeX typesetting of Devanagari and other Indic fonts. You can download stuff from the Indolody Website. Also I found a really good online tool at http://www.aczone.com/itrans.

Itrans is a preprocessor for LaTeX.

PS I have been trying to get my own LaTeX system to work for a while with Itrans but I don't know enough about TeX/LaTeX to do it.
